Getting married in the Unitarian Church

The Unitarian Church on St. Stephen’s Green has been open for worship since 1863. It is a non-credal church and welcomes all who wish to worship in a spirit of freedom, reason, and tolerance. We do not have a test of beliefs or faith nor any ceremony of admittance.

Those wishing to be married in the Unitarian Church should contact the minister or lay preacher after a Sunday service (11am) as a first contact. At this point, we can talk to you about the Unitarian wedding service in terms of content and structure, answer any questions you might have, and the diary can be checked at this stage too. We will provide a copy of the marriage service and other useful reading material. There are legal requirements for marriages in Ireland. Please contact the Registrar of Marriages for information giving the Dublin Unitarian Church as the venue. The Registrar will send a formal notification to the Unitarian Church.

Flowers are at your discretion. You should contact the church caretaker to arrange a suitable time to deliver the flowers to the church. Our organist will be happy to play our newly restored organ and / or upright Petrof piano (2007)  by arrangement or recommend and organise other musicians if required. Email him at email hidden; JavaScript is required for more information.

A booklet has been compiled to enable you to prepare your wedding at the Unitarian Church on St. Stephen’s Green. It contains an outline of the legal requirements; a specimen service; suggestions for readings; a brief history of the Dublin church; an introduction to Unitarianism, answers to some frequently asked questions; a checklist of things to do; and some useful phone numbers and email addresses. The booklet can be obtained through www.lulu.com or from the church.

The minister and wedding solemmizers at the Dublin Unitarian Church are happy to celebrate marriage services for same-sex couples. These marriages are subject to the same legal conditions as all marriages and couples should be sure to build the 3 month period required by the Registry Office into their planning and be sure to apply for their license with as much notice as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at the number below or ask any of our wedding team after a Sunday morning service.

Wedding solemizers registered by the Dublin Unitarian Church do not currently travel to venues other than the Unitarian Church except in exceptional circumstances.
